Tonight is the Slammy Awards Edition of RAW. It is usually one of the worst RAWs of the year. I bet you can't wait!
Gotta Get That Win Back!
Rey Mysterio vs Damien Sandow started the show. Sandow sent Rey to the outside then tossed him into the ringpost. Sandow hit a side Russian leg sweep and then the elbow of disdain for a two count. Rey fought out of an armbar but took him to the corner with some shots to the gut. Rey pushed Sandow off the top rope and hit a seated senton then a hurricarrana and a dropkick for two. Sandow caught Rey with a kick then a neckbreaker. Rey regained control then hit a 619 and a splash for the win.
Match Analysis: Barely a five minute match that didn't amount to anything. Why not make the tag champs look strong instead of giving Rey his win back from last night? I don't get it. Survey Says: 2/5
Booker T came out to deliver the Shocking Moment of the Year Slammy. After the nominations, the Boogeyman came out for who knows what reason. Back from break, the Boogeyman was gone and said "Tell Me I just didn't see that." Brad Maddox came out assuming he would win. But Kofi Kingston's handstand from the Rumble won. Kofi thanked everyone in the audience for voting for him and said he always wanted to win a Slammy since he was a kid. Sure thing Kofi. Kofi won over Maddox and Punk turning on Rock? It's gonna be a long night.
Kaitlyn beat Eve with a terrible version of her finisher.
The New Age Outlaws came out to deliver the Comeback of the Year Slammy. Jerry Lawler won from coming back from his heart attack. Lawler did the usual thanking people do when they win.
Kofi Kingston vs Tensai. Tensai shoved Kofi away as he went for a splash. Tensai hit a Vader Bomb for two. Kofi moved out of the way of a Tensai charge in the corner and hit Trouble In Paradise for the win. Wade Barrett came out after the match and attacked Kofi. He shoved him into the ringpost and hit the Bull Hammer Elbow.
Note: Looks like the theme for tonight is short matches, long Slammy Award crap. May not add a lot of thought to some of these segments.
Vickie Guerrero came out to deliver the Kiss of the Year Award. It was A.J. with either Kane, Daniel Bryan, C.M. Punk or John Cena. Her kiss with Cena won. Vickie asked A.J. to explain her actions. A.J. said she doesn't owe anyone an explanation. But she said she doesn't care about what people think about her anymore. Vickie called her trash. They argued until Dolph came out to break it up. She made out with Dolph. So the point of that is to let everyone know that A.J. is a slut? And she doesn't care that people think that about her? Okay, sure thing.
The Great Khali defeated David Otunga.
Divorce Court Fees Add Up I Guess
Ric Flair came out to deliver the Superstar of the Year Slammy. He said he can't tell anyone where he is staying because he will get in trouble. Cena won the award. Because of course, losing to John Laurinaitis on PPV means you are superstar of the year. Cena said the award should go to Ric Flair. Which is terrible logic even for him. C.M. Punk came out. Punk went on a tirade. He rambled on about Cena being a loser and all of his losses this year. Punk said he had to listen to HBK talk about how all he ever wanted to be was Ric Flair. Punk said Flair hasn't even been here. Flair told him to take a hike. Punk said he can beat Flair even with one leg. Flair said lets do it. He went to the ring and Punk followed.
In the ring, Punk poked Flair with the crutch then hit him across the back with it. Punk did a mock Flair walk, but Flair poked Punk in the eye then applied the Figure Four Leg Lock on Heyman. Flair thanked everyone and said he loves being in the WWE and back in Philly. Suddenly, The Shield's music hit.
Back from break, The Shield was attacking Ric Flair and Team Hell No, who came down to help Flair apparently during commercial. Before they could put Flair through the table, Ryback came out and the faces ended up with the upper hand as The Shield bailed.
Segment Analysis: That was drawn out over three segments. It was nice to see Ric Flair back and you have to wonder if may be the WWE has something in store for him down the road. I don't like The Shield losing a bit of steam in that segment. I would like to see them continuing to trend upward. This show has the makings of a "hold steady" show, with the WWE not wanting to do too much headed into the New Year. Punk's rant on Cena was great though. Survey Says: 3/5
Backstage, Flair wooed. Bryan screamed No and Kane screamed Yes. Ron Simmons came in and said DAMN.
Brodus Clay defeated JTG.
Santino and Tensai, with an ice bag on his head, came out to deliver the LOL Moment of the Year. Santino called him Albert. The Rock won for his History Lesson stuff. Santino accepted for him. Bryan came out and screamed No.
Cody Rhodes vs Sin Cara. Sin Cara hit his springboard elbow but Rhodes came back with a backdrop and then an armbar. Rhodes threw Sin Cara into the corner and landed some kicks. Rhodes taunted Cara and he hit a kick then a missile drop kick off the top. Sin Cara hit a hurricarrana. He went to hit his arm drag but Rhodes caught him and hit CrossRhodes for the win.
Layla and Zack Ryder came out for the Hashtag of the Year Slammy. Ryback won for #FeedMeMore.
Where Can I Buy A MEGA CHAIR???
Big Show came out with the MEGA CHAIR. He asked why people boo him yet he continues to prove he is World Champion. The crows chanted boring. Big Show said to keep chanting that and he will sit there all night. Sheamus came out and said he has no hard feelings and they had a good hard brawl and kicked the crap out of each other. Sheamus said Big Show was the better man. He offered to shake Big Show's hand. He did. Show told Sheamus to take his potato eating Irish self to the back of the line. Sheamus attacked Show and hit him with the MEGA CHAIR, and then a Brogue Kick.
Suddenly, Dolph Ziggler came charging to the ring with Big Show knocked out. Before Ziggler could cash in, John Cena came out and attacked Dolph. He threw him into the barricade on the outside.
Segment Analysis: That was a total heel move by Cena. There's no way around that. You can't justify Cena's actions there. Revenge? For what? He should be mad at A.J. and not Dolph. It just didn't make any sense other than Cena being a giant crybaby. And please, no more Sheamus/Big Show. Why should Sheamus get a 4th match out of all of this? Survey Says: 2.5/5
Dolph Ziggler and Vickie argued backstage. Dolph said their relationship was over and he wanted revenge on Cena. She made a match: Vickie/Cena vs Ziggler/A.J.
So This Is How You Plan To Get Guys Over?
3MB vs Miz, Alberto del Rio and Tommy Dreamer. After Del Rio and McIntyre squared off, Dreamer and Slater came in. All hell broke loose. Del Rio hit a dive to the outside, then Dreamer hit an axe handle off the top rope. Back from break, Dreamer made the hot tag to Miz. Slater regained control quickly and dropped Miz on the barricade outside. The heels took turns working over Miz. It went on for far too long, but Miz finally tagged in Del Rio. He hit a kick on Slater, but Slater countered a cross armbreaker. Del Rio moved in the corner and hit Slater with an enziguri kick. Del Rio tagged in Dreamer, who hit his DDT for the win.
Segment Analysis: This is a decent short term answer to getting Miz and Del Rio over as faces. But theu still need to do something else long term for it to work. There are only so many old time wrestlers that can keep being brought back. Survey Says: 2/5
Please No...
Sheamus came out to deliver Newcomer of the Year. Ryback won. He said Owen Hart used to say 'Enough is enough and it's time for a change." Ryback said he is that change. Antonio Cesaro came out for a match. He called the voting system rigged and said unlike Ryback, he is a Champion. Cesaro hit an uppercut but Ryback came back with a Lou Thesz Press. Ryback hit a suplex, but he ran right into a Cesaro knee in the corner. Cesaro went for the Neutralizer but Ryback countered with a back drop. Cesaro wanted to leave, but Ryback press slammed him back into the ring. Cesaro still left and Ryback won by countout.
Segment Analysis: At least they didn't job out Cesaro. That might have been one of the worst decisions the WWE would have made all year. Survey Says: 1.5/5
Mean Gene Okerlund, Ricky Steamboat and Jim Ross came out to hand out the Match of the Year Award.
Triple H vs Undertaker won. HHH said it was a magical night that he will never forget. Hunter said that we have not seen the last of the Undertaker.
Backstage, The Shield attacked Tommy Dreamer and Ricardo Rodriguez.
RyBlack?
A.J. came out and delivered a promo on top of a ladder. She said that all everyone has been asking her since TLC was Why? A.J. said she thought it would be obvious. Before A.J. could say why, Vickie Guerrero came out and said on one cares why. Dolph/A.J. vs Cena/Vickie. Ziggler started with an armbar but countered with a backdrop. Ziggler tagged in A.J. Her and Vickie brawled. A.J. walked out. Ziggler took it to Cena. Vickie left. Cena went for an AA but Ziggler hit a DDT for two. Ziggler went for a superkick but Cena ducked and applied the STF. A.J. came back down with Big E Langston who took out Cena to end the show.
Segment Analysis: Umm, okay? Now we are adding another wrestler into this mess of a storyline? Okay. Segment Analysis: 1.5/5
OVERALL
Once again, the Slammy Awards lives up to its reputation as being one of the worst shows of the year. Nothing good really happened on this show. Ric Flair came back which was a nice surprise. But there was no wrestling of note on this show. All of the Slammy Awards were given to the wrong people. And if the voting was done live, why were the answers printed on the envelopes already? Just a waste of a show that was a pain to watch. I'm giving it a 2. Ric Flair saves it from being a one.
Until Next Time,
