Happy Memorial Day to all my American readers. Lets see just how patriotic this RAW and Review will be.
Fi Fy Fo!
After an unnecessarily long recap of the Big Show/John Cena stuff from last week, Big Show came out. Big Show said he was happy to do his job. He said he doesn't have to smile and pander anymore because he has an iron clad contract. Show said he can do whatever he wants whenever he wants. Show said there is no one in his league at all. Show complained about Brodus Clay coming out and having fun minutes after he was on his knees begging for a job. He specifically called out Kofi Kingston and R-Truth, who he thought were his friends. He called everyone shallow and phony. But Show said John Cena disappointed him the most. Show thought Cena was going to fight and stand up for Show's job, but instead Cena made jokes. Show said he hurt Cena last week, and what he does at No Way Out will be the same. Show said No Way Out will be the most embarrassing loss of his career. And that puts a smile on his face.
Segment Analysis: That was actually a very strong Big Show promo. While I've never been a fan of his in ring work, I always thought Show was a good promo and one of the better actors the WWE has. Show was straight, serious, and to the point with his promo. He got his point across and backed up the fact that no one came to defend him when he lost his job. Good start. Survey Says: 3.5/5
Santino vs Alberto del Rio ended quickly with a Del Rio cross armbreaker. Way to showcase your U.S. Champion.
Alex Riley tried hitting on Eve backstage. Big Show came by and said he had a message for the RAW Locker Room and proceeded to throw Riley into the wall.
Rematches Rule!
Tag Title rematch from Over the Limit. The faces had control early. Swagger went over the ropes awkwardly and looked like he might have injured his left wrist. Truth and Kofi hit a double baseball slide on Ziggler, knocking him to the outside into commercial. Swagger seemed fine because he had Kofi in a submission hold back from break. The heels worked over Kofi before Kofi ducked a Ziggler corner splash and tagged in Truth. Truth hit some offense before connecting on the Lie Detector on Jack Swagger for the win.
After the match, Ziggler complained and said he was better than this and walked away from Swagger and Vickie.
Segment Analysis: Not on par with their Over the Limit match but decent action. Again, it makes sense to have the faces win with Primo and Epico waiting in the wings. Not a lot of action before the hot tag. It will be interesting to see if the post match stuff leads to anything. Ziggler deserves a long singles run. Survey Says: 2.5/5
Big Show picked on an injured Santino backstage and said he would pick him as his opponent. Brodus Clay stepped in and said he heard Show had some beef with him. Clay said he should pick him as his opponent, and he will give Big Show something else to cry about. Show agreed, but said after tonight, Brodus will have to be more worried about walking than dancing. About time they do something with Brodus.
I Wish All Crazy Chicks Were This Cute
John Laurinaitis came out on his scooter with Eve and David Otunga. Laurinaitis said Show vs Cena will be in a steel cage. Laurinaitis also said since Over the Limit, he has become the most popular superstar in the WWE. Laurinaitis showed a mock cover of him on WWE 13. He said it will become bigger than Pac-Man. C.M. Punk came out. He said like Pac-Man, Laurinaitis has no testicles either. Punk said the real person on the cover of WWE 13 is better looking than he is, and revealed the cover with him on it. Punk told Laurinaitis should get out of the ring.
Time for C.M. Punk vs Daniel Bryan. Punk hit a quick hip toss/armdrag/armbar combo. Bryan fought out with an armbar of his own. Punk fought out with an elbow and atomic drop then some knees to the gut. After a couple counter submission holds Punk dropped Bryan on his knee for two. Bryan dropped Punk's bad arm off the rope and hit a flying knee off the top. Bryan went for a baseball slide but Punk moved. Punk hit a kick to the gut then a springboard crossbody to the outside. Suddenly A.J. started walking to the ring going into commercial.
Back from break Punk was kicking Bryan in the corner. Punk missed on a reverse crossbody and Bryan caught Punk with a kick. Bryan applied a unique arm submission hold. Bryan hit a charging dropkick on Punk in the corner for two. Bryan applied another armbar but Punk fought out with some kicks and a neckbreaker for two. Punk hit his running knee but Bryan countered the bulldog attempt. Punk scored a roll up for two. Punk hit a springboard crossbody for two. Bryan knocked Punk off the top rope. Bryan hit a superplex off the top rope for two.
Bryan took the padding off the turnbuckle. A.J. jumped on the apron to tell the ref. Punk caught Bryan with a kick for two. Punk charged at Bryan, but Bryan dropped Punk right on the exposed turnbuckle. Bryan scored the pinfall win. A.J. watched on with sadness.
After the match, Kane came out and went after Bryan with a steel chair. Kane went to go for Punk, but A.J. slid a chair into the ring and Punk used it on Kane.
Segment Analysis: Another solid match between Punk and Bryan. Nothing else can be said. I would give this one about ***1/2 stars. They finally played A.J. into the story a bit more. She does a good job playing her role. She's so damn cute. Adding Kane into this match would just be completely stupid. I don't get why the WWE feels the need to screw up an already good thing. Solid match with solid storytelling. Survey Says: 4/5
Christian beat Miz in a nice little match. Nothing much to it. Miz is pretty much a jobber now and this continues the Cody Rhodes/Chrisitan feud, as Cody was out on commentary during it. Nothing wrong with it.
Backstage, Laurinaitis complained to Otunga and Eve about their handling of certain things lately. It ended with Laurinaitis making Otunga vs Sheamus.
Miz was still in the ring after his loss. He said he made the pinfall win for Team Laurinaitis at Wrestlemania and he has no iron clod contract or Title match. Randy Orton came out and RKO'd Miz. They showed Dolph Ziggler backstage and he told Vickie that he needed to be out there and to get him out of this tag team.
Sheamus defeated David Otunga.
Somebody Call Brodus Mama
Big Show came out and said Brodus Clay was an embarrassment for doing what he's been doing. He compared him to Doink, but said at least Doink had talent. Show charged at Clay and speared him outside the ring. Show beat down Brodus outside and tossed him into the ringpost. Kofi tried to make the save but Show caught him and tossed him into R-Truth. Show took apart the table and used a piece to smash Brodus with. Show tossed Kofi through the barricade, then R-Truth into the steel steps. He then hit the KO Punch on Brodus. Show walked out as Laurinaitis met him on the ramp to raise his hand.
Segment Analysis: And that just took the show down a bit. Listen, I know you want the Big Show to "look strong" heading into his match with John Cena. But why? We already know that he is a dominant monster heel when actually booked like that. But at the expense of your Tag Champs and an over mid-card act. While Show's promo was good at the beginning, I still don't care too much for a Big Show/Cena match again. It just doesn't intrigue me. Survey Says: 2/5
OVERALL
I thought this was a slightly above average episode of RAW. Big Show's promo was good at the beginning, but the end was bad with no need for Show to go over at the expense of other talent. The Punk/Bryan match was good and was a fine way to extend their story. I fear adding Kane to the match at No Way Out will drag it down a bit, as there is plenty already there with Bryan, Punk and A.J. Why does Kane need to be added to everything? I'm intrigued to see what is going to happen with Dolph Ziggler. Is it finally time for a big singles push for him? Time will tell. No John Cena was a bit refreshing as well. Everything else was just okay but not bad. I'm going to give the show a 6.
And remember kids, not all crazy chicks are as adorable as A.J. Most of them want to kill you in the end.
Until Next Time,
Justin C
